Folks of those days laboured hard, set aside gold and silver just to be able to build treasures for their future. A good man will always store up wealth for his children's children, but a selfish and greedy man squanders all that his father left behind on himself alone, leaving debt for his own children. Some before they leave, become a serious liability to their folks. What a chastising way to start an article.

No, my dear reader, that headline wasn’t referring to “the hardest” of my own year. The lessons are coming from John Reese, the acclaimed Internet marketer who sold more than $1,000,000 worth of his Traffic Secrets in a space of 24 hours.

When you are in an employment, there is nothing to celebrate until you are able to use it as a tool to enhance your financial independence. I spoke with somebody who had a good dose of what it takes to earn salary for a long time, but finally having to face the reality of retirement and had to come out of it with a sharp statement of note and I quote:

The death recently, of four of the sextuplets born to a Nigerian family is heart-breaking. It brings to fore the question of the value we place on human life in our country. Money will always flow from those who can’t manage it to those who have the capacity to multiply it. Whenever you have money in your hands, it is an opportunity to create more. To the poor, money is a problem, but to the rich money it is an opportunity to make more.

BEFORE I unfold my new mentoring agenda, there’s something I’d like to talk to you about briefly. Do you have a clear road map from where you are right now to where you want to be? Our country is today in dire need of crusaders. A crusade is a cause or purpose that is bigger than you. The most successful people in this world are those who live to serve God and humanity. They are people who spend their lives solving problems for others. Living on a crusade is living with impact. It is living one’s life not just as an expense but as an investment.

Investment is a potential deposited in every man to profit from, but many have gone to the grave with their own. Who is to blame when all that God gave you end up in the grave without  any proper use.

Abraham Lincoln, once a president of the United States of America, said that if he were given ten hours to cut down a tree, he would spend six hours sharpening his axe.

I kept my emotion in check when I heard this story. This was because I wanted to feel for the victim and at the same time, I could not also say it ‘served him right’, for what he became a victim of. It is not always about power or physical manifestation of strength; you never can tell who is stronger. It doesn’t show in our physical appearance, if it did, the strongest people would have lived a hundred years plus and the weakest people will probably live below 50 years. Opportunities come not by strength and power, but in desires and will to perform at all cost.

I was eager to get much from my billionaire mentor during my recorded interview with him. My calculation was that I should get him to “download” as much as he could then, so that I wouldn’t need to see him as frequently as I had been. And he did give out so much. We, however, agreed that there was no way I could get everything at a go: we would still have to arrange for more sessions.

By the way, is it okay for me to talk about you? Well, I’ve already started the conversation. So, let me just get on with it. But here is a promise and a guarantee. I will not bore you. And you will be richly rewarded if you patiently listen to what I have to say.

A few days ago, I saw an okada rider, riding in the wrong direction. He almost hit a pedestrian. Then, he shouted, “Get out of the way”. I found it quite amusing that the one who was breaking traffic rules would turn around to be the aggressor. But that is the story of our country today. We don’t know the difference between right and wrong anymore.

After many years of betting on pools and getting no result, he decided to join the manual workforce, carrying cement and blocks at building sites. But by this time, his strength was already failing.
